Independent Examinations Board – International
The Independent Examinations Board-International (IEB-International) is an arm of IEB, a South African non-profit organisation and an internationally well-respected assessment Board that conducts assessment for school-leavers in the independent school sector such as the South African National Senior Certificate (NSC). IEB-International has requested Stellenbosch University to quality assure “a high-quality qualification that is internationally comparable but is Africa-centred, developed and delivered by a South African organisation” internationally. This qualification is referred to as the IEB- International Secondary Certificate (IEB-ISC). SU-UIC is responsible for the quality assurance processes for the IEB-ISC.
IEB-International Secondary Certificate (IEB-ISC)
The first IEB-ISC examinations took place in October 2022. The qualification is an international qualification with its roots in Africa. Schools that offer the IEB-ISC through the IEB are independent schools, appropriately registered in their own countries, fulfilling all legal requirements which apply in the country in which they operate. Similarly, other institutions that wish to offer the IEB-ISC would be obliged to fulfil the legal requirements which apply in the country in which they operate.
Examinations Council of Lesotho
The Examinations Council of Lesotho (ECoL) serves as the authority in the Kingdom of Lesotho responsible for developing, overseeing, and maintaining a robust assessment system for Basic Education that addresses Lesotho’s educational requirements. The Examinations Council of Lesotho is developing a new national school-leaving qualification, the Lesotho Advanced Secondary Certificate (LASC) and has requested SU-UIC to quality assure the assessments once the qualification is rolled out nationwide. Currently, the SU-UIC is consulting on the Lesotho Advanced Secondary Certificate by providing several services during the development phase of the qualification.
Lesotho Advanced Secondary Certificate (LASC)
The Lesotho Advanced Secondary Certificate is currently being developed to be rolled out nationwide in Lesotho. This new qualification aims to align with South Africa’s National Senior Certificate and other, similar matriculation qualifications, enabling Basotho nationals to access a broader pool of universities.
