The Tutor-Mentor Programme is a student driven peer-academic support programme for all undergraduate programmes in FMHS.
About the programme:
Focus on supporting:
First & second year students during their academic transition from high school to university and with their increased workload and exposure to the clinical environment
Senior students with a strong academic record, passion for their programme, willingness to serve others and potential to mentor and tutor students take on the “MenTut” role
What is a MenTut?
A MenTut is an academic role model who offers advice in terms of:
Integrating into university life
Study tips and academic advice
Ensuring students are coping with the academic workload
Maintaining holistic wellness and a balanced lifestyle
Academic direction and referrals to Subject-Specific Tutor, Lecturer etc.
Psycho-social support referrals to Clinical/Couselling/Educational Psychologists, Equality Unit, etc.
A MenTut does not do the following:
Provide counselling or mediate conflict.
Rely solely on offering past resources to Mentee(s).

Meet the Team
Student Coordinator: Nicole Abrahams, MBChB IV
The Student Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the coordination of the Tutor-Mentor programme, as well as providing support to Head Mentuts and Mentuts.
Essentially, I serve as a link between Mentuts, Head Mentuts and the faculty, to collaborate with the faculty and other SU stakeholders to monitor, evaluate and continuously develop the Tutor-Mentor Programme.
