A constitution is\u00a0important because it protects the rights of the parties governed by it and explains their obligations. Furthermore, a constitution defines the powers and limitations of these parties.<\/p><p>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sun.ac.za\/english\/management\/student-parliament\/Documents\/South%20African%20Constitution.pdf?d=w36ada81d65bc4907afbebddac57336cc\">South African Constitution<\/a>\u00a0was passed by the\u00a0Parliament of the Republic of South Africa in 1996 and contains the most important rules of the South African political system. It sets out South Africa&#8217;s values, the rights of the people, how Parliament and other legislatures work, how the national and provincial executives are elected and how the South African courts work. The Student Parliament Constitution\u00a0was approved by Stellenbosch Student Court in 2014\u200b.
