We joyously announce that one of our own — The Honourable Minister Rachel Kachaje is the new Minister of Disability and Elderly Affairs in Malawi — Rachel has been a member of the Afrinead family since 2007 and we are very proud of her achievement.

Mrs Rachel Kachaje has over 25 years of Leadership experience in local and international organizations. She is proudly Malawian and a disability advocate specialist. She has represented people with disabilities in areas of public relations, lobbied and advocated for disability rights, disability policy changes. Rachel has a great passion for people with disabilities, in general, but more in particular with woman with disabilities, especially those in developing countries.

She is the first woman to be the Chairperson of SAFOD after it has been headed by men for 16 years. SAFOD is an affiliate member of Disabled Peoples’ International (DPI). She is currently the Interim chairperson of DPI Africa and the chairperson of Disabled Women in Africa (DIWA), of which she is a cofounder. She is a representative of women with disabilities in the Commonwealth Disability Forum. She has won several awards for her human right stance and leadership skills.
