MBHG researchers awarded prestigious L’Oréal-UNESCO for Woman in Science award

Congratulations Dr Rouxjeane Venter

Dr Rouxjeane Venter, a postdoctoral researcher in the Division of Molecular Biology and Human Genetics at Stellenbosch University’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, is one of six South African researchers who were recently awarded a grant from the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science South African National Young Talents Programme.

Created in 1998 and led by the Fondation L’Oréal in partnership with UNESCO, the For Women in Science programme aims to promote and encourage the participation of young African women in science through identification and reward of talented young female scientists in the field of Formal sciences, Life sciences, Environmental sciences, Physical sciences, Engineering and Technological sciences.

Dr. Venter’s research, as part of the Clinical Mycobacteriology and Epidemiology (CLIME) Group within the MBHG Division, aims to get a fast and accurate diagnosis for patients with Drug Resistant-TB so that they can get placed on effective treatment sooner.
