Celebrating Woman in Science
Woman’s History month is an annual occasion celebrated in the states, that highlights the contribution of woman to historical events and commemorates the role of woman in society. In 1911, the first International Woman’s Day was celebrated – giving birth to Woman’s Week in 1980 and Woman’s Month in 1988. Today, Woman’s History Month is used as a platform to promote equality among the sexes and pay tribute to the amazing accomplishments of Woman throughout the globe.
The Division of Molecular Biology and Human Genetics (MBHG) have decided to join in the celebration and will be highlighting accomplished scientists throughout the month of March. For this series, we will spotlight professors, senior researchers and postdoctoral fellows from different research groups housed within MBHG. Each day a profile of one of our #WomanInScience will be posted, highlighting their impact in the field of scientific research. Our aim is to encourage all young females, looking to pursue a career in science, to follow their passion and work hard to achieve their goals – because virtually nothing is impossible if you persevere and maintain a positive attitude.
As a follow-up to the “Woman’s History Month” Blog series, we will be featuring various #MenInScience throughout the month of May. Our aim for this series is to breakdown the segregation within science and provide equal opportunity to all researchers regardless of their gender.
