The journey towards new patterns

As part of our University’s rebrand implementation, the Corporate Communication and Marketing Division (CCMD) together with the Centre for Governance and Student Administration undertook the renewal of Stellenbosch University’s (SU) academic attire.

Inspired by the Forward Together pattern and in consultation with the Visual Redress Committee, the CCMD team conceived the idea of creating distinct pattern designs for each faculty. These unique designs would help differentiate faculty attire and collateral within our overarching, uniform SU brand.

The renewal of academic attire process also provided an opportunity for co-creation with our students, staff, alumni, and local community members through in-person workshops.

Faculty patterns

At the end of 2023, SU’s Faculty Management approved ten faculty pattern designs to complement our University’s visual identity. The faculty patterns will be unveiled at the 2024 December graduation series.
