Welcome to the Helshoogte website! Whether you are a curious prospective Helshoogter, parent, a current member of our community, an old-boy or simply just browsing through I would like to extend a warm welcome to you.
In-case you are wondering: Helshoogte is just the right fit for you! There is no stereotype, and no need to “fit in” – our goal is to embrace the authenticity within one another as we work together on building a thriving, diverse student residence at Stellenbosch University. Helshoogters work hard at building community, this may mean that we will sometimes have difficult conversations, make mistakes or feel challenged – we are all human – the end goal always being to emerge feeling heard, understood and that you belong as a member of this House.
My journey within the Helshoogte community began in 2014 with my appointment as Resident Head, a role which takes its guidance from the community itself and which is tasked with maintaining continuity, looking out for the interests of Helshoogters and the House itself and giving advice or input when needed.
During my studies I completed a Bachelor of Science at SU in 2012 as well as further Post-Gradudate studies at SU.In addition to being the Resident Head at Helshoogte I also currently work at Information Technology at SU, playing a part on our institutional project to renew and implement new ERP-systems for the University.
I firmly believe that Helshoogte offers its residents a platform from which to excel in academics, sport, social or cultural spheres. Even better is that you will likely be able to integrate many of these into your day-to-day life within residence here. University is the first step in your adult-life journey, and this is just the place to begin it – the success of which depends on you!
