21st African Human Rights Moot Court Competition

From the 1st to the 6th of October Alex Taylor and Johan Bester represented the Stellenbosch Law Faculty at the 21st African Human Rights Moot Court Competition in Maputo, Mozambique.  The competition comprised of 3 categories, for English, French and Portuguese speaking students.

The Moot was held over two days in which there were 2 rounds per day. In the English section Alex and Johan were placed 12th out of 48 teams, with an average score of 73.38.  Aside from the competition they were given the opportunity to explore Maputo and in the process made friends with students from all over Africa. Above all else, they were exposed to some of the humanitarian problems in Africa and it allowed them to embrace the spirit of Human Rights and to see first-hand how African legal academics and scholars can promote the notion of human rights in the practise of law.
