The riding school recently hosted an in-house showjumping show in April. it was a huge success with almost all of our riding school pupils taking part. We look forward to the next show. A special thank you to all who helped with the day.

2017

Maties Equestrian Club recently announced their official team for 2017. Well done to:

  • Kyla Brown
  • Samantha Joubert
  • Lou-Andri Naude
  • Leanne Walker

Our Maties Team rider, Kyla Brown, took part in the SDRC Valentine’s show on the 11th February 2017. She rode in Adult novice 2 and the Adult novice 4 with her beautiful grey (but chestnut when he is at home and rolling in the mud) gelding, Romeo. They both looked the part and rode extremely well, making Maties proud. Our groom, Siya, accompanied Kyla and Romeo to the show to help out and he did a wonderful job.

Ingrid Le Roux recently represented Maties at SDRC on the 18th of February 2017. Our Maties Team rider was accompanied by Sandy and took part in the 60cm and the 70cm class. They had a lovely, clear round and made it to the jump off. This was Sandy’s second show in her life and she was calm and collected all the way.

Janine Heydorn and her pony, Can Can, competed in the Western Province Mounted Games competition that took place at Wild Clover on the 4th of March 2017. They took part in one and made it through to the final. Janine and Can Can placed first in the final, placing third in the competition overall.

Sandra Swart, as the head of the Community Project, recently facilitated two very successful community projects. An event was held on the 25th of February 2017 where a group of under-privileged children came to Maties to experience the wonderful company of horses. The children had a wonderful day and were full of laughter and joy by the time the event came to an end. Thank you to all the helping hands on the day, we are truly grateful.

The other event was held on the 23rd of February 2017 where a group of 6 doctoral students spent the day with the horses in order to experience the effects they have on humans. The skills-base, empowerment session for PhD students from the African Doctoral Academy was facilitated by therapists from Equinox and was a huge success. Thank you, Sandra, for reaching out and touching people’s lives. We have the privilege of being able to interact with horses every day and it is lovely to see the same gift given to people who don’t have that opportunity.

2015

On Saturday, 21 November 2015, MEC hosted a community project involving underprivileged children from Cloetesville and the Root TLC organisation. These children were given pony rides on our wonderful riding school ponies and were treated to chips and sweets afterward. A huge thanks goes out to everyone who helped out! It was definitely worth it seeing all the smiles on their little faces!

We have recently built a two-horse wash bay at the MEC stables! The wash bay is fully equipped with a coil hose, cross-ties and baskets to store grooming tools during washing. The wash bay compliments our fully paved, roofed tack-up area and aids in the easy care of equines at our facility.
