MBHG Doctoral candidate receives prestigious Bongani Mayosi Scholarship

We are delighted to announce the award of the prestigious Professor Bongani Mayosi Netcare Clinical Scholarship to Dr Jane Shaw, a pulmonologist in the BMRI Clinical Team at MBHG.

This scholarship creates opportunities for deserving South African medical practitioners to further their studies and research in their respective fields of specialisation. The award is named after Prof Bongani Mayosi, a world-class clinician, A-rated scientist, legendary teacher and visionary who imagined an Africa capable of driving its own agenda and using science to improve the health of its nations.

Prof Mayosi’s fundamental drive was the transformation of society through investment in future generations of scientists, physicians and future leaders. His ultimate belief was that science should be a vehicle for social and political change, and ultimately a vehicle for economic upliftment. Through this award, of which only two awards are made each year, we honour his legacy and vision.

We congratulate Dr Shaw on this outstanding achievement and wish her all the very best with the continuation of her innovative PhD studies at MBHG.
