We are thrilled to announce that Dr Bih Chendi has been selected for the RePORT International Coordinating Center (TB-RICC) Early-Stage Investigator Fellowship Program under the supervision of Professor Novel Chegou, Head of ChegouLab within the Immunology Research Group at Stellenbosch University.
The RePORT International initiative—Regional Prospective Observational Research for Tuberculosis—focuses on advancing global TB science, with a strong emphasis on translational research that can lead to real-world tools for TB control. As part of the fellowship, Dr Chendi will work on validating blood-based TB biosignatures across multiple cohorts, building directly on her PhD work which evaluated host Mycobacterium tuberculosis blood biosignatures in diverse settings.
“I am deeply honoured that my proposed research was recognised,” says Dr Chendi. “This fellowship offers the opportunity to expand on my PhD work and conduct research with tangible clinical impact. It’s also a platform for career-strengthening activities and scientific leadership development.”
In addition to her research, Dr Chendi plays a key role in mentoring students, leading projects, and ensuring efficient lab coordination within ChegouLab—demonstrating her commitment not only to science but also to team development and knowledge transfer.
