    Living in China for 6 months certainly sounds daunting, especially if one has aunts and uncles who ask you if you are ready to drink green tea every day, and eat dogs for breakfast! But China is much more enjoyable than other people might believe it to be. A few simple preparations will make your stay simply unforgettable!

    Pre-departure: 

    My exchange is different from most exchange programs with regard to the fact that it is only 3 months long. The subjects at TU Delft are taken in 3 month periods as opposed to the 6 months (semester) at Stellenbosch University. Due to this system, it was possible for me to do a 3 month exchange. This is very convenient since I will be able to do the exchange without losing too much valuable time required for working on my master’s thesis. (more…)

    I can’t believe this day has finally come! It actually feels surreal, like an out-of-body experience and like I’m living someone else’s life. The steps leading up to this moment seemed almost impossible to take throughout the application: from filling out the application form; to preparing the video; to compiling motivation letters; to applying to the host institution; and all the way to applying for and receiving my visa. There were times when I felt like I had to give my all because I had nothing to lose, but there were also times when I felt like letting the idea go. I had nothing to lose, right? The idea was too big and the academic pressures of being a final-year student working part-time were starting to get to me. The International Office, especially Sarah, was really helpful and supportive throughout the entire process and that made things a lot easier to deal with. (more…)
