    More students than ever before are choosing to study abroad, from the always popular programs in the European countries to ones in the United Kingdom and Asia that have seen a growth in applicants. So why do they do it? The same reasons you should. Study abroad is a good opportunity to do something different, and the stories you’ll be able to tell upon your return may be worth the voyage alone. Ask around. Chances are the friends you know that have spent some time overseas count it as one of the most exciting and rewarding experiences of their university careers.     This blog entry may have a slightly different feel to it than the others, as I travelled to study at Zurich University with my friend Wicus Coetzee. Having a friend traveling with made the preparations far easier as only one person had to book flight tickets, only one person needed to inquire about housing and only one person has to deal with the bank to secure foreign currency.     Prior to my departure for Beijing, I was in a state of frenzy – excitement, nerves, and a jumble of inexpressible feelings that seem to occur every time you realize that you are indeed entering the grown-up world. A lot of the preparation beforehand entailed admin: packing up my room and carting boxes to storage, finishing my thesis,sorting out banking matters and writing up countless lists of things to remember. The planning for admin sucked up most of my energy the week before I left but it at least distracted me from worrying about the unknown that lay ahead.
