    Genevieve Minota Stander attended the Winter University at Humboldt University, Berlin during January 2012. Here is her report.

    • Pre-departure

    Getting ready for the exchange at Humboldt University was, in my case, a very intimidating undertaking. I had never been outside of South Africa’s borders before, let alone been on an aeroplane – and now all of a sudden I had to organise visas, passports, different currencies, plane tickets, transport to and from airports… but as an admittedly ‘novice traveller’ I have to say that as daunting as getting everything ready for a trip overseas may seem, in the end it is all very doable.

    First of all, as a student I received a lot of support and help from Stellenbosch University’s side and I am sure that without their input things probably would not have gone as smoothly as they did. That being said, to make it easier for anyone else planning on applying to Winter School here are a few points to keep in mind pre-departure:

  • Helsinki Summer School Experience

    During August 2011 Desiree Daniels attended the Helsinki Summer School; here is her report:

    Leading up to the school:    

    I am completing my MPhil in Management Coaching, and while a student at SU I was eligible to apply for the exchange programme.  I thought this would be a great opportunity to extend my experience as a student as this may be my last chance to qualify.  After considering various exchange programmes offered by SU, I opted to do the course on Inter-organisational Relations offered at the Helsinki Summer School (HSS) as this was a keen interest of mine.  The partnership arrangement is that fees and accommodation costs are covered.  In addition to this, I was very fortunate to qualify for a travel bursary.  So the only expenses I had was my food and entertainment.  This sounded too good to be true as without this scholarship I would not have been able to pursue this route.

    If you are reading this blog entry, you have most likely been selected to attend the EBS summer school in Germany. How exciting! I have included some suggestions with regards to your preparation for the trip abroad, information about the visa application and also some tips that worked for me.
