Everything you need to guide you through the SUNStudent Implementation Approach

What is SUNStudent?

SUNStudent is SU’s new student information system, which will use the Academia software provided by SeroSoft Solutions. This state-of-the-art student information system dealing with student administration, of which academic curricula and modules are important components, takes SU on its next step to digital transformation in education. The new system will replace the current, outdated system and promises to be solid and reliable, yet also flexible, modern and student-centric.

Who is involved?

The successful implementation of SUNStudent will depend on the cooperation and support of staff and students, who will ultimately benefit from the new generation and student-centric information system. The project will include consultation sessions, regular communication and training of stakeholders across the University.

Serosoft has been appointed as service provider, following a rigorous process to make a final decision on a new SIS that is aligned with SU’s new Vision 2040 and Strategic Framework 2019 – 2024. Their Academia SIS is a state-of-the-art solution that addresses each phase of the student lifecycle, from recruitment to graduation and beyond.

SUNStudent will take student administration and academic curriculum management at our University to the next level. This cutting-edge, cloud-based system will replace our existing SIS, harnessing the latest in technology for optimal results. The anticipated change will impact every facet of SU.

A project management office has been set up, and the Registrar, Dr Ronel Retief, will be leading the SUNStudent project. She will be assisted by a strong steering committee and project management team, including expert representation from our divisions of Information Technology (IT) and Information Governance, and input by relevant functional areas. We have decided to use Eiffel Corp’s change management consultants to assist and support our staff and students through the transition from the existing system to the new SUNStudent.

Implementation will be a phased process, taking into account the normal student lifecycle activities and the availability of SU personnel. This process will include consultation sessions, regular communication and training across the University.

The SU community can look forward to improved services with modern interfaces, the capability to respond to new and rapidly changing requirements, improved reporting and analytics, and a better overall user experience for staff and students.

The support of senior management is essential to the success of this very important institutional initiative. We are therefore counting on your cooperation in taking the necessary steps in your environment towards the implementation of SUNStudent.
