Open Access Highlights at SU 2012

Dear all

2012 has been a special year, and we are thankful for so many things we were part of – maybe the highlight of the year – the Berlin 10 Open Access Conference (www.berlin10.org). We were fortunate to welcome people from all over the world to our beautiful country to learn, share, observe, innovate etc. regarding Open Access and more. Lifelong relationships were established, and it was a privilege working with the Max Planck Society on this conference.

December graduation is coming up, and we wish to congratulate all candidates! The full text of your theses/dissertations will be made online available from SUNScholar http://scholar.sun.ac.za from 17 December 2012. From here it will be digitally preserved for years to come, and open access will be provided to your research in order to increase its visibility, impact and citation rate. Please link to the persistent URL from your online environments, CV’s, etc. And check out the statistics! It is great to see how frequently it is being used and from where in the world people access your research. Also great for the research profile of SU! You really do us proud.

A major upgrade of the open source software we are using (DSpace) is planned for December, and we hope to bring you an even better product in the new year!
