MINERVA’S RESIDENCE HEAD

Dr Melanie Petersen
mpeter@sun.ac.za

The Residence Head is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the residence and serves as the main link between the University and the residence community. They ensure that the residence operates smoothly, that university and residence rules are upheld, and that the values and traditions of the house are honoured while remaining aligned with university guidelines.

Beyond administration and leadership, the Residence Head plays a caring, supportive, and nurturing role within the residence. Often regarded as a motherly figure, they provide guidance, understanding, and support to the young women in the house, creating a safe and welcoming environment where residents feel heard, valued, and at home. Through this balance of leadership and care, the Residence Head helps foster a strong sense of belonging, wellbeing, and personal growth within the residence.

Dr. P’s smile has a way of instantly making Minerva feel like home. Her genuine care and the time she dedicates to each member of our community serve as a constant reminder of how deeply she values all of us. Through her leadership, she fosters an environment where kindness and understanding are at the heart of everything we do. Thank you, Dr. P, for guiding us with compassion and creating a space where every individual feels seen, supported, and truly belongs.
