The Hans Merensky Chair in Measuring and Modelling Eucalypt Growth & Wood Formation
Understanding growth in the world's most widely planted hardwoods
We have started planting of our trees at the IMPACT OAL research site!
On the 28th of April 2024, seedlings of Eucalyptus cloeziana, E. grandis and E. urophylla arrived at the Department of Forestry and Wood Science (DFWS), to be planted at the new, exciting IMPACT OAL research site.
We greatly thank the Merensky Nursery for sponsoring these trees for our research goals! They spent some time in the nursery of the DFWS, to receive some love and pampering after their long journey to us.
But of course, these trees are meant for research purposes and could not spend the rest of their lives in small containers! No no no… We therefore had to prepare them for the conditions they were meant to grow in – outside! Thus, they were moved to the outside of the nursery on the 22nd of April – this was to make them use to not receiving water three times a day and to harden them off for the tough conditions they were about to face in the real world!
On the 29th of April, the first of the trees were planted at the IMPACT OAL research site! The planting of all the trees for IMPACT OAL is still ongoing, and our team is working hard to have the planting phase completed by the end of May 2024. Stay tuned for more updates!!
