On 22 July and 19 August 2023, Iimbovane and the Cape Leopard Trust welcomed 33 educators at two  workshops which showcased projects which educators can implement in their Life Science classrooms.

The first workshop took place in Oudtshoorn and was attended by educators from primary schools in Calitzdorp, Zoar, Hoeko, as well as officials from Cape Nature. The second workshop was held in Caledon and attended by educators from Calendon, Hermanus and Grabouw.

The Cape Leopard Trust started the workshops off introducing their ‘Research in a Box’ concept. This ‘box’, which schools can borrow for a few months, include the camera technology necessary to conduct a survey of the animal and bird species in their schoolgrounds.

On their turn, Iimbovane presented to educators how ants can be used to teach biodiversity science at both the primary and the secondary school level. This was followed by a practical session which gave educators the opportunity to sharpen their microscope skills.

Both workshops were SACE (South African Council for Educators) registered and educators who attended earned the necessary SACE points.
