Once you have officially been accepted to Stellenbosch University, we will have the pleasure in welcoming you to our PSO. “PSO” just means “Private Student Organization” (there’s a lot of fancy university jargon, but don’t worry – it’s there to make conversation 50% shorter. Can you imagine saying Private Student Organization all the time? It kills my fingers to just write it!).

In essence, we as a PSO (see cover letter for explanation), make up about 70% of students on campus. Silene was established in 2008 and consists of approximately 400 undergraduate female students of Stellenbosch University. Our values of UNITY, FRIENDSHIP, RESPECT, INDIVIDUALITY and ACCEPTANCE are important to all of us here in Silene, and these are always borne in mind when planning events and activities. Just because you aren’t staying in university accommodation doesn’t mean that you’re not a part of the university community. We assist First Years through their initial transitional period into university life in order to ensure that they flourish both academically and socially throughout the duration of their studies.

Silene forms part of the Victoria cluster. A “cluster” is an initiative to help students academically and to assist in social interaction and integration on campus. There will  be  a  cluster  day  where  you  will have  the  opportunity  to meet  with  the other students in our cluster. Victoria cluster consists of Monica and Harmonie (both female residences), Wilgenhof (men’s residence) and Oude Molen PSO (our brothers).

You can follow the cluster on Twitter (@victoriacluster) and join up on Facebook (www.facebook.com/groups/423199931069498/).

Want to find us on Twitter or Facebook? Just search PSOsilene – it’s that simple!

Please note that we do not provide accommodation during the Welcoming Period as well as for the year. Students are required to find their own accommodation and transport.
