The South African Department of Environmental Affairs has the responsibility to manage the Prince Edward Islands (PEIs) as a Special Nature Reserve under the National Environment Management Protected Areas Act (NEMPAA 2013). According to NEMPAA 2013, the Department may establish an advisory committee to assist the Department with the management and conservation of the PEIs.
The current Prince Edward Islands Advisory Committee (PEIAC) was appointed in June 2014 for a three-year term, which will come to an end with effect from 31 May 2017. It is thus now incumbent upon the Department to advertise for the appointment of a new PEIAC whose term will commence on 2 January 2018.
The nominations should be made for professionals knowledgeable in the fields of marine science (biophysical oceanography, etc.), alien species management (especially small mammals), climate change science, bioprospecting, heritage resource management, etc. in line with the objectives of the PEIs Management Plan. Each nomination should contain a comprehensive Curriculum Vitae with certified copies of qualifications.
The PEIs Management Plan is available online here. Nominations should be made by e-mail to mdopolo@environment.gov.za.
Enquiries: Mr M Dopolo, tel. (021) 819-2420. Successfully nominated candidates will be notified by means of an e-mail.
