From the editors:
“On a work front it has been busy to say the least. Seals have been weighed and tagged. Birds have been counted, nests marked and fledglings waved goodbye to. Weather balloons have been released, solar storms monitored and alien invasive plants
cleared. We have been making the most of the extra daylight with endless hours of walking, the odd Koppie submitted and new valleys and plateaus explored.
This is our first newsletter of the year, one everyone’s been waiting for (even us). We can’t believe the time has gone by so quickly. We only have 3 months left until the big red taxi (AKA S.A. Agulhas II) will make its yearly stop at Marion Island. There is still so much we want to experience but with little time left – and of course, there’s a lot of work to fit in.
In a nutshell, the last few months were spent busy and buzzing in the field, running from seals and skuas, and spending time with team members who became our friends.
