Amatola inligting

…een van die bekendste staproetes in Suid Afrika

Die Amatola staproete is in die Ooskaap, naby King Williams Town en Hogsback. Dit is een van die bekendste staproetes in Suid Afrika wat elke gesoute stapper een keer in sy lewe moet doen. ‘n Groot deel van die roete word gestap in endemiese woude met enorme bome wat saggies in die wind fluister. Dan is daar die grasvelde wat uitgestrek oor die bergpieke lê, asook diep klowe waar bergpoele en watervalle volop en asemrowend mooi is.

Die roete is net oor ‘n 100km lank en word voltooi in 6 dae. Dit is ‘n uitdagende roete wat ‘n hoë fiskheids vlak vereis. Daar sal ‘n keuringsuitstappie gehou word om te bepaal of jy geskik is om die roete te doen of nie. Geskikte warm klere en ‘n warm (dons) slaapsak is noodsaaklik en toerlede sal vereis word om dit saam te vat.

…one of the most well-known hiking trails in South Africa

The Amatola Trail is in the Eastern Cape, near King Williams Town and Hogsback. It is one of the best known trails in South Africa that every seasoned hiker has to do once in his lifetime. A large part of the route takes you through endemic forests with large trees that gently whisper in the wind. Then there are grasslands that stretch across the mountain peaks, as well as deep ravines where mountain pools and waterfalls are plentiful and breathtakingly beautiful.

The route is over 100km and is completed in 6 days. This is a challenging trail requiring a high level of fitness. There will be a “keuringsuitstappie” to determine whether you are fit enough to complete the route to or not. Suitable warm clothing and a warm (down) sleeping bag is essential and tour members will be required take these items on tour.
