On Thursday, 07 September 2017, the ship will depart for Gough Island, where she will leave the new overwintering team. The new team went through a few weeks of team training, involving firefighting, cooking classes, team building etc. (see team activity photos below). The team is now fully prepared for their 13 months on this sub-Antarctic island. The ceremony will commence at 14h00, where the team will be introduced and also waved off as the ship departs.
The team members are: Fabrice Le Bouard (Senior RSPB field assistant), Malesedi Ramotanda (Meteorologist), Jamie Cleeland (RSPB field assistant), Kate Lawrence (RSPB field assistant), Zacharia Mogale (Meteorologist), Peter Chuku (Radio Technician and Deputy Team Leader), Santjie du Toit (Senior Meteorologist and Team Leader), Thabo Maroga (Electrician), Vukile Madlebetsha (Diesel Mechanic) and Tom McSherry (Medic – currently on the island).
