Covid-19: Message to all law students

16 March 2020

Dear Student,

Earlier today the rector, Prof Wim de Villiers, announced that SU will suspend lectures from 17 March and will continue via online tuition from 30 March 2020. The Faculty of Law will implement this decision and the following is applicable:

  1. All in-person classes and assessments will discontinue. This suspension is applicable to both undergraduate and postgraduate (LLM coursework) classes.
  2. Where possible, please make use of online communications. All consultations, supervision etc. will continue online.
  3. The Faculty is preparing to facilitate learning and teaching in an online mode, and these interventions will be available after the upcoming recess. Please consult your SUNLearn sites for updates.
  4. There is currently no clarity about when face-to-face teaching and assessment will resume. Therefore, we must plan on the basis that teaching and learning will resume after recess in the online mode until further notice.

We acknowledge that this is an extraordinary step for any institution to take but believe that it is the right decision. We wish to ask for your patience and support as there will undoubtedly be many questions and uncertainties that will not be immediately resolved (for both students and staff). Be assured that the Faculty will do everything in its power to assist you during this time and to ensure that you can complete a successful academic year.

We also ask you to do the right thing, and to adopt social distancing where reasonably possible to help with the containment of the disease to limit the spread of infections. Together we will weather this storm — “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”.

Yours sincerely,

Covid-19: Boodskap aan alle regstudente

16 Maart 2020

Beste Student

Saam sal ons hierdie storm deurstaan – “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”.

Groete
