The psychology department is the biggest department in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences in terms of student numbers. The undergraduate courses offered prepare students for entry into both clinical- and research-based postgraduate programmes. We have established ourselves as having expertise in the following areas: human development; clinical psychology, community/social psychology, critical psychology, and public mental health.

The subject of humankind is one which we all view with intense fascination. Psychology is the study of human behaviour. Should you have the desire to register as a psychologist with the Professional Board for Psychology, you need to have an undergraduate qualification with Psychology as a major, and follow up with an honours and master’s programme in Psychology.

What is psychology?

Psychology is the scientific study of behavior and mental processes. It is a field of study that seeks to understand the human mind and behavior through the application of scientific methods and theories. Psychology encompasses a broad range of topics, including cognition, perception, emotion, motivation, personality, development, social behavior, and mental health. Psychologists use a variety of research methods to study these topics, including observation, experimentation, and surveys.
