Cobus is lecturer in the Department of Mercantile Law, a member of the IP Team, Fellow of the Anton Mostert Chair of Intellectual Property Law and consultant in the technology law practice are of Werksmans Inc. His primary field of research is copyright in the digital environment and computer programs and focuses on the decompilation prohibition and the protection of non-literal elements of software. He has a background in computer programming and graphic design and an interest in epistemology and the impact of digital emersion on legal-educational practices. He was a recipient of the full term NCPETF scholarship for 5 years. He is the author of several articles on issues of intellectual property law and co-author of the chapter on intellectual property law in the digital environment (EIP) in Dean & Dyer: Introduction to Intellectual Property Law. Cobus is dosent aan die Departement Handelsreg, lid van die Intellektuele Goederereg Eenheid, Genoot van die Anton Mostert Leerstoel in Intellektuele Goederereg en konsultant in die tegnologie praktyksgebied van Werksmans Ing. Sy primêre navorsingsgebied is outeursreg in digitale tegnologie en rekenaarprogramme en fokus op die dekompilasie-verbod en die beskerming van nie-letterlike elemente van sagteware. Hy het ‘n agtergrond in rekenaarprogrammering en grafiese ontwerp en stel belang in kennisleer en die uitwerking van die digitale omgewing op regs-onderrig en praktyke. Hy het die NCPETF vol-termyn toekenning vir 5 jaar ontvang. Hy is die skrywer van verskeie artikels oor intellektuele goederereg aangeleenthede en mede-skrywer van die hoofstuk oor intellektuele goederereg in die digitale omgewing (EIP) in Dean & Dyer: Introduction to Intellectual Property law.
