Prof Marius de Waal is Professor in Privaatreg.  Sy hoof belangstellingsgebiede is die erfreg en die trustreg en hy doseer hierdie vakgebiede in die Departement Privaatreg.  Hy is die mede-outeur van standaard Suid-Afrikaanse handboeke op hierdie gebiede.  Prof De Waal het ook reeds ander ander vakgebiede in die veld van privaatreg doseer, soos deliktereg, sakereg en verteenwoordigingsreg.  Hy was reeds by drie geleenthede (1994, 2000 en 2008) die ontvanger van die Alexander von Humboldt Stipendium vir navorsing by Duitse akademiese instellings.  In 2010 was Prof De Waal  ‘n besoekende genoot  aan die Universiteit van Leuven in België en sedert 2010 doseer hy jaarliks in die LLM-program in regsvergelyking  aan die Universiteit van Parys  Descartes (Parys V) in Parys, Frankryk. Prof Marius de Waal is Professor of Private Law.  His main fields of interest are the law of succession and the law of trusts and he teaches these subjects in the Department of Private Law.  He is the co-author of standard South African textbooks on these subjects.  Prof De Waal has also taught other subjects in the area of private law such as agency, the law of property and the law of delict.  He has been awarded an Alexander von Humboldt Scholarship on three occasions (1994, 2000 and 2008) for research at German academic institutions.  In 2010 Prof De Waal was a visiting fellow at the University of Leuven in Belgium and since 2010 he has been teaching in the LLM programme in comparative law at the University of Paris Descartes (Paris V)  in Paris, France.
