
Peter Donald
Advisor and Mentor
Peter Donald is emeritus professor in the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Stellenbosch University. He has a wide range of interests in tuberculosis, predominantly in childhood tuberculosis; in particular tuberculous meningitis and the epidemiology and natural history of tuberculosis. He has been active in the assessment of antituberculosis agents in children and adults for thirty-five years and associated with the DTTC since its inception.
He retired from a full-time post of ad hominem professor at Stellenbosch University in 2004, but remains active as a part-time clinical researcher, an advisor and mentor for a variety of tuberculosis research programmes. When not working he enjoys the unique flora of the Western Cape Province of South Africa, hiking and cross-country running and likes to pretend that he can play the recorder. He held an A2 rating from the National Research Foundation of South Africa from 2008-2018. In 2010 received the “Union Medal” of the International Union against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease for his contribution to promoting child lung health.
