Gerhard Kemp et al, Criminal Law in South Africa (2012) was recently published by Oxford University Press. The book (652 plus xxxiv pages) is the first criminal law text in South Africa to comprehensively deal with the application of international criminal law in South Africa. It further contains critical discussions of various crimes such as terrorism, corruption, organised crime (including money laundering) and sexual offences. It also introduces the reader to controversial debates, such as the euthanasia debate and the scope of the crime of murder. The first two parts of the book contain a general introduction to criminal law in South Africa (including theories of punishment and the legality principle), and the general principles of criminal liability, such as criminal capacity, mens rea, and unlawfulness.
