Thursday night the 8th of May 2014 saw 8 students from the Faculty of Law battle it out in the annual internal final of the African Human Rights Moot Court.
The competition was judged by Judge Saldanha, who serves as a judge at the Western Cape High Court, Advocate Ismail Jamie, Senior Councel at the Cape Bar, where he also serves as the chairperson of the Cape Bar Council and Professor Gerhard Kemp, professor at the faculty specialised in criminal and international criminal law.
The finalist that appeared before the esteemed judges were Ms Kara Meiring, Mr Sage Kruger, Ms Lizl Carse, Ms Melissa Gerber, Mr David van der Merwe , Mr Wiaan Visser, Mr Derryn Lee Visser and Ms Clara Brand. They all did exceptionally well in arguing a complicated and multifaceted case. By the end of a long night of arguing and opposing Ms Kara Meiring and Mr Wian Visser scored the highest points and will accompany Prof Rudman, the team leader, to Nairobi, Kenya for the final of the competition to be held in the first week of September.
