Final year LLB students, Lerato Melato and Charissa Barden represented the Faculty at the African Human Rights Moot Court Competition in Mauritius in September 2017.
They describe their experience as follows:
“The 26th edition of the African Human Rights Moot Court Competition, organized by the Centre for Human Rights together with the University of Mauritius, was one of the most fulfilling experiences of our entire career as law students.
The preparation required was something so markedly different from anything we had done previously. The Moot required not only consistent hard work but a commitment to constantly trying to improve the work we were producing.
From the very beginning of this experience we have been fortunate enough to be supported and guided by Professor Annika Rudman. Her constant support and supervision was priceless. Whilst her high standards, at times, felt torturous it was these very standards that made it evident to us just how much potential we possessed.
The Competition itself was filled with early mornings, late nights, long bus rides and more intellectual stimulation than we could have ever imagined. Above all, however we were afforded the opportunity to be exposed to some of Africa’s brightest young legal minds, men and women who will become not only leaders of our continent but champions of human rights all over the world.”
