The Faculty congratulates Mr. Hendri Herbst, one of our 3-Year LLB students, on his participation in the 2016 Rio Paralympics. Mr. Herbst took part in the following events: The Men’s Swimming 50M Freestyle – S11; the 100m Freestyle – S11 and the 100m Backstroke – S11.
Hendri has been hard at practice over the past two years, following his Bronze in the 100m Freestyle in London 2012, with two Bronze medals at the 2015 World Championships in Glasgow, and a gold and silver (50m and 100m Freestyle respectively) earlier in this year at the Funchal 2016 European Open Championships.
The Rio Olympics saw Hendri place 6th in the 50m Freestyle, with a time of 27.11s – followed by a 4th place in the 100m Freestlye, narrowly missing out on medal placement with a time of 59.71, a mere 0.08 seconds away from Bronze!
The Faculty is incredibly proud of Hendri, and his performances in representing South Africa – all this whilst maintaining a balance between the challenging workload of his Degree programme, and the rigours of international sporting competition. We wish him all the best for the remainder of his degree programme, and whichever lanes his future swimming plans may take him!
