Pre-departure and arrival:
Preparing for my trip to Lausanne, Switzerland, was very exciting! Fortunately, the visa application process went smoothly and I received my visa within 1 month of applying. The hardest part of preparing for my trip was trying to fit everything I would need for a semester into one suitcase.

With this being my first time overseas, it helped a lot having friends who have been overseas who could advise me on more cost-effective options, what the best travelling options are, how and what to pack, etc. The following list contains a few notes that I made in preparation for this trip:

Having only been to Europe once before and five years prior, in times lacking economic and political tensions, I was a little apprehensive to travel to a continent I had heard and read much about but clearly lacked practical experience in. I remember the first moments, starting out from the bulkhead windows, seeing the snow-capped Alps, frozen runway and subsequently the express tram into the heart of Zürich airport as critical in falling in love with this “small” European city.
