You are about to start with the journey of a life time. Going on an exchange is known as one of the most enriching and challenging experiences of your life and is sure to be a highlight of your time at university.

You are now an ambassador for your country and for Stellenbosch University. Use this opportunity to enrich your life and the lives of others.

The following tips and guidelines were compiled to assist you with every step of your journey. It includes valuable information on just about every aspect of your exchange: From initial arrangements to safety and travel tips, to information on how to deal with culture shock or making sense of things. We urge you to carefully work through each section in the guide and to use the web links and other resources provided. Refer to the checklist at the beginning of each section to be sure that you have everything under control.

Although we tried our best to include as much information as possible, this guide should not be your only reference. Do your own research; speak to former exchange students, your host coordinator and family or friends that travel frequently.
