26 April 2023
The Stellenbosch University Centre for Invasion Biology (C·I·B) and the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) are collaborating to host the National Symposium on Biological Invasions 2023. The event will be an in-person event taking place from the 4th to the 6th of July 2023 at the Houw Hoek Hotel. The symposium is open to experts, researchers, students, managers and policymakers currently working on, or with an interest in biological invasions in South Africa.
Global Invasion Targets In A South African Context
Relevant global targets include the newly negotiated Convention on Biological Diversity’s Kunming-Montreal global biodiversity framework, specifically target 6, and the Sustainable Development Goals. The symposium’s Scientific Committee will be accepting proposals for oral presentations and posters focused on the theme as well as presentations focused on any aspect of biological invasions relevant to Southern Africa.
Abstracts for oral and poster presentations must be submitted through the online submission system by 1st May 2023 at 5:00 pm. No emailed abstracts will be considered. Notifications of abstract acceptance will be sent out in early June 2023.
The conference officially starts at lunchtime on 4st July 2023, leaving the morning of the first day open for possible piggyback events.
If you would like to organise and drive such an event, please get in touch with the Scientific Committee (email: sabrinakumschick@sun.ac.za).
